Most stores think about backups after something breaks.
I would rather you spend five minutes understanding the risk now than spend five days rebuilding later.
Shopify protects the platform. That is not the same as restoring your store.
If products, themes, collections, pages or other store data are deleted or overwritten, Shopify does not provide a merchant-controlled point-in-time undo button for everything.
The everyday mistakes are usually the dangerous ones.
A bad CSV import, an app update, a bulk edit, a theme change or an AI tool can rewrite a huge amount of store data very quickly.
A CSV export is useful. It is not a complete recovery plan.
An export does not give you complete store coverage, historical versions or a clean way to roll the store back to the moment before the mistake.
