Hey friends. Welcome to another daily short of the Shopify 1% podcast. These are short seven to 10 minute episodes where I share a thought, something that can help you grow at least 1%. Because remember, if you grow 1% every day for a year, you will 37 x. Yes, that's right. You will grow 3700% because when you compound 1% over a year, growth compounds.
So, I'm on my commute here. And I wanted to share something that I think will make a huge impact. This might make more than a 1% impact, but that's okay. I was talking to someone the other day and they shared a really insightful comment and I'll, um, I'll actually put a link to the conversation in the show notes.
But the feedback was that when someone comes to your website. Every single visitor should have something they can get. And, and they call it or I, I can't remember if they called it or I, we, we call in the conversation, we came up with this term calling it an irresistible offer. So what this means is, like generally right now, you think your website is about selling your products, which it is.
You know, everything leads towards that. You've got a great homepage, you've got testimonials, reviews, you're doing everything right. You're doing those the first 60 seconds right, that we talked about the other day, uh, you know, to lead them to your product page to click add to cart. But the bottom line is
even the best of the best websites convert I don't know, maybe eight or 9%. The, the best I've ever heard of is 15%, industry average is around two. So like literally, let's say like, the best I've ever heard of is 15%. If you're doing above 15%, by the way, message me and I would love to have you on this podcast, um, because that's amazing.
But the bottom line is even for the very best, 85% of visitors are still not buying. So what do you have for them? What do you have for that 85%? You got nothing. Like if the only thing you're doing is selling your products, you're missing out the opportunity on the other 85%. And maybe I. Which is lame, but maybe you have somewhere on your website a thing to join your email list for, for discounts, and maybe you give them a 10% off coupon.
I mean, you have to do that. That's table stakes. I'm sorry. I shouldn't say it's lame, but you, you have to do that. That's nothing special. But the idea is what if you had an irresistible offer for every single person, meaning. Regardless of whether they buy something, they might be able to download your ebook for free.
Okay, let's, let's just say you sell anything, pet food, skin supplies, coffee, whatever. Skincare. I use this example a lot. Let's say you've got an ebook on the best way to take care of your skin in the summer. And something like, we've got one for each season. I dunno. But everybody can download it for free.
There's no, no strings attached, no, no paying, no nothing. Just enter your email and we'll send you your book. Now what you, of course you have is you have their email but you've also interacted with them and you've engaged with them. You've built your built a relationship. You're now gonna start that journey of that relationship with that customer.
It could be a free like webinar consultation service. Depending on your traffic, and depending on the opt-in rate on this, I've seen some people do a free 15 minute call with an expert in whatever the area is, like, I don't know, say, so you can use skincare dog food. Maybe it's a 15 minute call with a pet
consultant talking about your pet and coming to the best food. I know I would love that. I don't, I give my dog dry food and I know it's not the best, but I don't know any better and I would love to talk to someone that does know better. So, uh, maybe it's a 15 minute call. Maybe it's like some type of, like a free audit.
Maybe it's a free gift, legitimately, like if you sell health supplies, don't make people spend a hundred dollars to get your free shaker bottle. Just give them one. Just give 'em a free shaker bottle like you're paying so much money to get these customers to your, to your store,
just have it pop up, have it somewhere on site. "Claim my free shaker bottle". No strings attached, no purchase. It's our gift. Just let us know where to ship it. That's it. Just literally let us know where to ship it. They go through, they'll go through a checkout with a $0 purchase, and you can make it so it's free shipping, or you maybe just, you maybe wanna make it $3 shipping, I don't know.
But make it a 100% free gift. Now you've, that's a pretty cheap cost of starting a relationship with one of those people from that 85% that you may never see again. So send them a shaker bottle that costs you $4, maybe $3 shipping. So I dunno, we're in it for seven or $10. Now you've got their address or email, you've got everything about them.
You maybe even want to ask them a few questions when they're getting the shaker bottle. Like, what brought you to our site? What type of fitness are you looking to improve on? Okay, next, we'll send you a shaker bottle. I don't know, you don't wanna be too aggressive there 'cause you really want it to feel like a gift.
But, uh, you can, you can play around with that. Now. You have their address, you have their email. Send a postcard 15 days later. Uh, there's a whole bunch of tools to automate this one I have been really interested in lately is, it's called handywritten. I'm actually gonna have the CEO, uh, on our podcast. It's a, uh, H-A-N-D-Y, written, W-R-I-T-T-E-N.
And it is, they've got machines that use pens that actually hand write cards, so they're not perfectly. It's not like, it's like typed out on a printer and it looks like handwriting, like it's real handwriting with a pen, an ink in a machine. So it's not perfect. Like every letter doesn't look exactly the same.
And it, you can tell it's, it's a pen, not ink, and it's handwritten and signed and, you know, have that postcard be a picture of your team, your company just saying, uh, we hope you enjoy the shaker bottle, and excited to serve you given the opportunity or something like that. It can literally be anything.
But you are building trust. You're building a relationship. And like think about if you were a customer in that experience, how much are you gonna trust that brand that just gave you a free shaker bottle or a free something, A free ebook, a free consult, a free something. And a free video download is a great one too.
And now they're sending you a handwritten postcard. The level of trust that you've just increased is huge. Now, when you see their ad on Instagram or Facebook or Google, the brand affinity has 10X'd. Brand affinity is your likelihood to choose that brand, your connection with it.
It's why celebrity brands see 8 to 10 x better roas (return on ad spend) than non-celebrity brands. Like you could have the exact same product. Let's just say you're selling, I dunno sleep vitamins. If I launched a sleep vitamin company, uh, and some celebrity, I think of anyone off the top of my head,
but some celebrity launches it. We both run ads and theirs has their name or their picture. It's obviously like endorsed by the celebrity. The celebrity sleep companies will have. Probably 10X better conversion than mine. I'm not a celebrity. I mean, I may be in a small group of Shopify merchants.
I, I have my small niche but I'm definitely no celebrity. But what it is, is it's brand affinity. Like, you know that celebrity you've trust, you trust them. You've watched their shows, you've read their books, or you listened to their podcasts. There's some relationship that has been built.
And now when you see the ad, you're. Literally 10 times more likely to click through the, the data shows that it's incredibly, uh, impactful on the return on ad spend, which is click through rate and purchase. So, so you can do that. You can kind of hack that even though you're not a celebrity, you can, you can build that same rapport and that same relationship otherwise.
So, send them that postcard, start sending them a couple emails with nothing selling, just information about your company, how you make your products. They'll come around like the selling will happen, uh, organically. They'll see an ad, but the worst thing you can do is when they get their free gift or download the ebook or get access to a video or something, then right away you sell.
I mean, that defeats the whole purpose. You're building the relationship. You're building trust so that they have brand affinity. That's the goal. You're selling brand affinity, just that's the conversion. Okay. Just get the selling outta your head for now, and that the sell the conversion will come. So, think about your site right now.
What could someone go to it and get absolutely for free? This is a huge, huge unlock because if I went to 10 e-commerce websites right now, I guarantee none, or maybe one would do this. Okay? But if you go to the websites of, you know, people selling, selling services, selling courses, masterclasses lessons, memberships, they all have they all have some gift.
I feel like they're a little bit ahead of e-commerce brands in that sense. If you go to. Just pick Tony Robbins. I don't know, like someone that has what they're actually selling is a system and they're selling a membership or they're selling a course or they're selling something. I guarantee you go to these types of websites and they'll have, "download our free ebook, get access to a 30 minute masterclass".
Get click here to get your free t-shirt hat, shake your bottle, whatever. Like they'll have something 'cause they know it works and it's just. eCommerce brands aren't doing it yet, and right now there's a huge opportunity for you to kick your competitor's butt and do it. And maybe that won't last forever, but right now there is for sure.
It's just eCommerce brands aren't doing it. So what can you give away, absolutely for free to every single customer? Or visitor, not customer, because they're not a customer yet. Every single visitor that lands on your website, and I know that every brand has something. It doesn't have to be a physical product.
It can be a digital product, but I want you to think about that, and then I want you to implement it. And if you have questions about how to implement it, I can absolutely help you in that. There's a lot of great tools and Shopify apps. Just email me. I check all my emails. JAY. At Shopify one percent.com, and that's spelled like Shopify, the number one, and then spelled out percent P-E-R-C-E-N-T jay at Shopify1Percent .com.
I check every email. If you're like, I don't know how to, uh, deliver an ebook, or I don't know how to give access to a video, or I don't know how to give a free product I can definitely point you in the right direction. There's a lot of tools that, that we've seen used that work. Great. Okay. That's it.
Again, this is definitely one that's probably more than a 1% impact. This could be a 10, 20, 30% impact if you do this, right. Don't just give away the gift, but then optimize it down the road as, as well for, for building that relationship. It will make a huge impact. Like it's an, it's an unlock.
This is like a growth hack. Um, I hate the word growth hack, but it is if you do this, it will hack growth on your store. So I hope this helps you. Thanks so much for being a part of these daily. Daily shorts. Uh, they're so fun and if you're enjoying them. Please leave a five star review.
It would mean the world to me. I am putting so much effort into these, literally recording them every single day. With the only goal of trying to help you grow your Shopify store. You'll notice that I don't really talk about our Bold apps and our, and our, the, our products. And I, I'm not promoting them.
I mean, we of course love it if anyone wants to use any of our apps, but that's not the point of this podcast. The point of this podcast is just, I wanna share all the knowledge I have with you to help you grow your store and if it's made any kind of an impact for you, anything. If you've taken any advice from these and implemented them.
The only thanks I ask in return is that you hit subscribe in your app right now and you leave a five star review. And if you really wanna make my day, just leave a comment too. I, I read every single comment and I also put them on our website. We have a review section, and some people write out big, long comments.
Sometimes it's just short and sweet, like, I absolutely loved episode 17 or something like that. Whatever you want. That's it. I've talked about the reviews enough, it would mean so much to me. Thank you so much. If you do really, really, really thank you, if you do email me and let me know if you do.
I actually got something special for you, so there you go. Speaking of gifts, if you leave a review, email me. I have something very special for you. Okay? That's it, and I'll see you on the next daily short. Have a great day
